PATIO HOUSES
Located in an enclosed city block in Lubumbashi, this project questions the relationship between the inside and outside in domestic spaces.Initially, the briefing demanded four appartmens of 120m² each, which normally implies a capitalisation on the isolated aspect of the site with dense row houses. The proposal, in contrary, is intending four villas with gardens in-between them. The outcome is a doubling of the living area while maintaining the same costs as for row houses. Anyways, the most important improvement is the re-established connection with the nature. This layout also allows for natural ventilation and cooling, ensuring pleasant living spaces in both the dry as well as rainy seasons.
